Casa Colel Luna is the south-of-the-border home of Christina and Milt Mendes. Our “northern” home is in Santa Cruz, California. (To find out more about us, and to see more photographs of Mexico and other places we've traveled, visit our website at www.buenavistaphoto.com.)

For information on our new vacation rental on the Big Island of Hawaii, see www.kealalani.com.

Casa Colel Luna (named for Ix-Chel, the Mayan moon goddess) is a dream come true and a work in progress. The house was built in 1996 on a magical site bordered by giant ficus trees and an ancient Mayan wall. One of our closest neighbors is a small temple, part of the Xaman Ha ruins.

Each year brings further improvements and enhancements to the property. In 2001, we built a second home next door, Casa Balam y T'ul (Jaguar and Rabbit House). (The jaguar was an important Mayan deity, and one of Ix-Chel’s favorite consorts was a large, handsome rabbit.) This addition is available as a separate, three-plus bedroom rental, and it also provides extra bedrooms for Casa Colel Luna. In 2006 we added a patio/barbeque area as well as more extensive gardens, waterfalls and a gazebo.

Individual rooms may sometimes be available (B & B style), so be sure to inquire about availability if you are interested. If you are in Playa and would like to see the house, please contact us for an appointment. We’d love to hear from you. E-mail us at info@casaplaya.net
