Tours

Van and driver for the day: Arrange your own tour—to nearby ruins, snorkeling spots, cenotes, and caverns. Stop at a wonderful restaurant on the beach for lunch. Leave the driving to Gabriel or one of his friendly, competent colleagues. (Suggested tour #1: Tulum ruins, Aktun Chen caves and zoo, Casa Cenote for lunch and a swim in Cenote Manati. Suggested tour #2: Tulum ruins, snorkeling at Yalku, lunch at La Buena Vida, more snorkeling at Akumal beach. Suggested tour #3: Check out cenotes along the highway, then Xelha for snorkeling, lunch, and river float).

Cavern Tours: Alejandro Kato (who also has the good fortune to be Esperanza's husband) is an aficionado of the local caverns (HUGE and truly amazing) and knows several of them well. He can tell you about the geology, mythology and history of these wondrous and mysterious places. Bring sturdy shoes and flashlight.

Fishing trips: Deep sea fishing with Capt Rick's out of Puerto Aventuras. Ask us to arrange your trip—full day or ½ day, private boat or party. (Private full-day trips: If you like to snorkel, bring your gear and ask to take a lunch break at a nice snorkeling spot.)

Activity ideas and tickets: Esperanza can get you tickets for Xcaret and Xelha. Ask her about other activities. Also see the activity notebook and dining guide at the house. (And check out “suggested tours” above; if you rent a car, you can do these on your own.)
